Alberta Update                                                                                                                               SPRING 2005

In Alberta, I have been trying to raise money locally, as well as Provincially. Currently I have prizes donated from Home Hardware, Value Drug Mart, Extra Foods, Radio Shack, and IGA.  There are many more business to approach! These prizes will be drawn through raffle ticket sales. Our raffle licence was approved last week, and tickets will be made up immediately. This licence is for a raffle under $10 000, with the prizes equalling at least 20% of the tickets sold. Luckily, I have family in Red Deer and Calgary that may undertake selling tickets, and I have approached some other organizations with similar mandates to assist in our ticket sales. Of course we will be prepared to reciprocate the same support to them!  One thing is certain, we can't do this alone!

In response to our request from the Devon Lions Club, I was thrilled that the Club was to donate $1000 to CHARGE Syndrome Canada. To show appreciation for their continued support, a CSC t-shirt was given both the outgoing and incoming President.  A ball cap was also presented to our special Lions Club contact that has echoed our cause, and has made great things happen for CHARGE Syndrome Canada on short notice!  I have also been busy with other funding proposals to corporations.

Our local fair is coming, and I will have an information table set up for CHARGE Syndrome Canada, along with t-shirts, ball caps, cards, sun visors, and raffle tickets to sell.  I have booked four BBQ's with our local IGA where we will be able to raise some funds.

On behalf of CHARGE Syndrome Canada, I attended the GAIN workshop, hosted by the Alberta Gaming Commission. The information was very valuable, and should allow us to submit applications for events in the future. Now that our organization is recognized by the Alberta gaming commission, we can apply for funding as often as we wish over the next two years.

I hope this gives everyone a sense of what has been going on in Alberta, and gives some ideas for other Provinces to help contribute to the fundraising endevours.  Please contact info@chargesyndrome.ca or call the toll-free number, 1-866-987-4650, or send us a fax at

1-780-987-4649  with your ideas to begin to help!

Wishing everyone the very best!

Kindest Regards,

Cydne Park
