CD - Rom Review  a CD-RomCOMMUNITY

Educators, parents and social workers comment on the lack of material for those with special needs when looking at social skills development.   A good teaching tactic has always been using video tape during various situations both in school and in the community to demonstrate how others are acting and reacting, as well as creating a concrete picture of the behaviour of the individual. This tactic has been especially useful in guiding target behaviour.

There is now a CD-Rom which presents a varity of situations in the community, and has the capability of being interactive for learning. It demonstrates visually some appropriate social behaviors, interactions, expectations and safety precautions while peers and adults interact.  By using real people interacting in different community settings such as a restaurant, doctor's office, friend's house, grocery store, and neighborhood, it allows the user to predict what should be appropriately said or done next. There are a variety of levels in this program and targets cognitive levels of 5-15 years.

The downside is the price, which is about $101 canadian,  but includes free shipping and no extra tax. To order the CD-Rom in Canada call 011-613-9310-4038 or mail aba@aba-materials.com
