INDEPENDENCE!  YOUNG ADULT WITH CHARGE TRAVELS TO ENGLAND

We are excited and inspired to hear about Christine-Ann's trip to England this past spring.  Christine is a young adult who has CHARGE syndrome.  For many parents with young children with CHARGE who have a variety of clinical features and various complicated medical conditions, the thoughts of their children growing and becoming independant may seem so far away.  And yet its the same as with any child -- a wonder about their future life as a young adult, how much support will be needed, and yet knowing that the children will be shaped by the richness of their experiences and the attitude about life that prevails.

Time unfolds the plan for our children, and many may seek adventure and a widening eye to the world. It is critical that children have a way to gain information at any stage of life, for often learning can only take place through building on experiences.  Some are planned by the child, spontanious and free.  Some may be carefully scripted, and planned with much language and picture support as we can carefully craft, and again as little or as much support: required to be contributing and successful.
