Currently in NB, there is an inclusive education review underway.   It is in the consultation process at this point.  Lisa Weir will be attending a meeting on May 11th as an "external stakeholder" representing families involved with the Atlantic Provinces Special Education Authority or APSEA (hearing and vision loss). Watch for more information as it becomes available.

APSEA PARENT WORKSHOP

Recently APSEA held its Parent Workshop.  Deputy Ministers from P.E.I., N.B., and N.S. were in attendance to answer questions from parents regarding their concerns about the recent APSEA review.  Mr. Dennis Chocrane, deputy Minister from N.S. and APSEA board chairperson, said that the review was "not about money."  He stated that the board had not accepted the review and that parents shouldn't be worried. A meeting held by the APSEA board on May 4th will decide whether or not directors' response to the review will be made available.

Aside from the meeting with the department of education Deputy Ministers, the weekend theme was: "Navigation the System".  It included presentations on a wide variety of topics, including advocacy and the parent's role in the IEP process.  Parents had a great time reconnecting with each other, sharing their experiences

and watching the kids together.

News on the greapvine says there will be a second "CHARGE week" coming up in the Fall -- I know two little girls who spent the weekend together will be VERY anxious to see each other again in the fall!
