Action Plan Strategy Report in New Brunswick

Human Resources & Social Development Canada's report on "Advancing the Inclusion of People with Disabilities 2006", is the 4th comprehensive report on disabilities in Canada.  Copies are available from the website at http://www.hrsdc.gc.ca/en/hip/odi/documents/advancingInclusion06/index.shtml

New Brunswick has an Action Plan Strategy, an 84 page report already completed.  A survey had gone out with 1200 that were completed and returned.  They had set goals and included those who have disabilities in all levels of planning.  The key goal is to "protect the rights of all citizens and ensure fair access to opportunities to participate fully in the social and economic life of the community".  The consumers are to have involvement in the planning and delivery of services and facilities.  It is hoped that access to disability supports will improve, and the public will be better educated about disabilities.  Steps to create inclusive education will continue, as will employment awareness which takes into account transitions from education.  Better housing, and universal design on buildings which are barrier free is the goal.  Better transportation and recreational and wellness facilities will also be realized.  There are a number of outcome measures included in the report.

As other Province reports become available we will link the information and highlight any areas of concern.
