GENERAL SUGGESTIONS FOR AUDITORY PROGRAM
"motivation is provided by another to attend to sound in the environment"
> structure environment to include novel sound-filled experiences
> repeat experience linking them with gestures and signs
> create a reason for individual to respond to a sound that is presented
> share in play experiences which include sound, touch, and looking
> use amplification devices to help child attend to auditory stimuli
> help child tolerate amplification using consistency stressed between home, school, recreational and therapy expectations during enjoyable activity like music, rocking, while holding favourite toy, etc
> target sound you want child to hear > voice, toy music ensuring other sounds are not present to distract or startle
> manipulate objects that create sound or place onto vibration (wooden sound stage, inside grand piano)
> speech, then sign, then listen, then touch > don't overload
> touch lips, jaw, and then throat as speech is repeated simplistically
> reward through praise any attempts explore, touch, or listen
