Technology Update

For people with visual impairment and blindness as well as those who have dyslexia, there are new tools distributed by Aroga, called the "FreedomBox Network".  This system gives the user the ability to navigate the internet and access information more easily. Serotek Corporation of Minneapolis, Minnesota developed this product, which frees the blind user from navigating through banner ads, multiple menues and buttons before getting to meaninful content. In this new system the content is navigated easily by using arrow keys. It includes access to email, which can be composed through the keyboard, or for people who don’t know how to type, it can be recorded and sent as a voice-mail. The network also provides access to news services from around the world, online music, shopping, chat rooms, and even audio-described movies for people who are blind. Members of the network can also create their own web pages and share them for other users.

Aroga and Serotek have provided 22 CNIB offices across the country with free copies of both System Access and FreedomBox Network for demonstration to their clients. In addition, Aroga can provide 30 day demo copies for people who want to try the software at home.

For more details on this exciting new series of products, call Aroga at 1-800-561-6222 (Vancouver), 1-877-274-0044 (Edmonton), or 1-800-871-2521 (Montreal)
